follow the sun to us…..

Every dog has their own story.

Some arrive full of puppy enthusiasm but recovering from injury. Others are slowing down a little with age, learning to navigate arthritis or neurological disease. Many are simply navigating post surgical recovery and need support to get back to their usual routine and body condition…

Whatever brings your pet here, we have options to offer..

☀️ Senior Dogs

Growing older is a privilege, and we're here to help dogs do it well. Our senior rehabilitation programs focus on maintaining strength, mobility and independence, helping your dog stay comfortable and continue enjoying everyday life.

🌊 Arthritis & Joint Disease

Whether it's early arthritis or long-standing joint disease, we help manage pain, improve movement and support healthier joints through personalised rehabilitation, allowing dogs to stay active without overloading their bodies.

🐾 Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Recovery doesn't finish when the stitches come out. We guide dogs safely through each stage of rehabilitation following orthopedic and neurological surgery, rebuilding strength, gait re-education, confidence and function while reducing the risk of setbacks. Our post-operative programs are tailored to your dog’s procedure, healing stage and goals, with a focus on pain management, restoring joint range of motion, controlled weight-bearing, muscle strengthening, balance and proprioception, and a gradual return to normal activity.

🐾 Conservative/medical Management

We also provide structured conservative rehabilitation for dogs recovering from injury, managing chronic pain, or where surgery is not recommended or not an option.

Conservative programs may include controlled exercise and activity modification, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, pain and mobility support, weight management, home environment advice, and a gradual strengthening plan that includes hydrotherapy. The aim is to improve comfort, maintain or restore range of motion, build muscle support around affected joints, and help your dog move more confidently. The process may be slower - however successful outcomes are possible!

We support dogs both after surgery and conservatively, including:

  • Cranial cruciate ligament (CCL/ACL) injuries and stifle rehabilitation

  • Hip dysplasia and hip pain

  • Elbow dysplasia and elbow injuries

  • Shoulder instability, soft-tissue injuries and shoulder pain

  • Fracture recovery and bone repair

  • Patellar luxation

  • Osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease

  • Spinal pain, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and post-neurological surgery recovery

🧠 Neurological Rehabilitation

Conditions such as IVDD, degenerative myelopathy, FCE and nerve injuries require patience, consistency and thoughtful progression. We work closely with your veterinary team to help maximise mobility, independence and quality of life.

💪 Soft Tissue Injuries & Performance Dogs

From weekend adventurers to working and sporting dogs, we help manage muscle, tendon and ligament injuries while building strength, reducing tension and over compensatory patterns, improving stability and resilience for the adventures ahead.

🌿 Preventative Care

Rehabilitation isn't only for injured dogs. Many owners choose to support their dog's long-term health before problems arise, improving strength, balance, movement quality and reducing the risk of future injury.

🐱 Cats Welcome

Although dogs are our main focus, cats are always welcome too. We offer gentle rehabilitation, massage, dry needling and laser therapy for feline patients recovering from injury or managing mobility concerns.

💛 Reactive, Nervous & Sensitive Dogs

Not every dog loves a busy clinic—and we completely understand. Sun Dog was created to be a calm, welcoming space where dogs can settle at their own pace. We happily adjust our approach, allowing extra time, quiet appointments and plenty of patience so every dog can feel safe enough to simply be themselves

Hydrotherapy - underwater treadmill

Canine hydrotherapy is an effective rehabilitation tool that uses the unique properties of water to support movement, build strength and improve mobility. The buoyancy of water reduces the weight-bearing load on joints, while its natural resistance helps dogs gradually develop muscle strength and endurance with less impact than many land-based exercises.
Our specialised underwater treadmill allows us to tailor each session to the individual dog, with adjustable water depth, temperature and treadmill speed. The water provides support for weakened limbs, can help relax tight muscles and allows us to work on gait retraining, balance, coordination and controlled movement in a supportive environment.
Hydrotherapy can play an important role in rehabilitation following orthopaedic surgery or injury, management of arthritis and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, neurological rehabilitation, weight management, fitness and conditioning, and maintaining mobility in senior dogs.
By combining carefully controlled exercise with an individualised rehabilitation plan, we aim to improve strength, support recovery, maintain function and help dogs move more comfortably, confidently and independently.

Bowen/Deep Tissue Therapy

Bowen and deep tissue therapy for dogs is a non-invasive approach rooted in the Bowen Technique, a form of osteopathy. It uses gentle hand movements on acupressure points to stimulate natural healing, ease muscle tension, stretch tissue and tendons and improve circulation. Each move separates muscle fibers, increasing metabolic function and hydration. During a session, the practitioner assesses the dog's condition and applies targeted moves to muscles, tendons, and joints. It's well-tolerated and can aid in acute injuries, chronic conditions, psychological stress, surgery recovery, and maintenance for active dogs. This sort of massage therapy promotes amazing results and complements conventional veterinary care to enhance a dog's well-being
laser therapy for dogs

Laser Therapy

Canine Laser Therapy or Photobiomodulation, is a pain free, therapeutic tool that emits precise laser light wavelengths that effectively penetrates tissue and muscle while stimulating and modulating at a cellular level to enhance healing and blood circulation, mitigating inflammation, expediting tissue recovery, and effectively managing a range of medical conditions such as post operative care, musculoskeletal or neurological issues. Our Class 3b laser offers drug free, quick, powerful, long lasting analgesia that feels like a warm massage and is tolerated by many dogs. Especially effective for spinal injuries and osteo arthritis discomfort.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used in canine rehabilitation to help manage muscle tension, discomfort and movement restrictions. By inserting fine, sterile needles into targeted areas of muscle, particularly tight or sensitive trigger points, dry needling aims to release muscle tension, reduce pain and improve muscle function.
It can be particularly beneficial for dogs experiencing musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, spinal discomfort, soft tissue injuries and muscle imbalances caused by altered movement or compensation. By helping to ease muscular tension and improve comfort, dry needling may support better mobility, more natural movement patterns and improved tolerance of rehabilitation exercises.

Therapeutic Exercises

Therapeutic exercise is crucial in dog physical rehabilitation, aiding recovery from injuries or surgeries and managing chronic conditions. We start with foundational, therapeutic, easy to learn exercise that helps promote range of motion (ROM) to maintain joint flexibility, strengthening to build muscle, proprioception, sensory and balance to enhance coordination, and stretching for flexibility. Goals include pain-free movement, improved muscle strength, and injury prevention. Benefits encompass faster recovery, better mobility, and enhanced performance. Personalized exercise plans are often part of home treatment for dogs, ensuring their unique needs are met. For more comprehensive plans, we will refer you to a canine physiotherapist.

PEMF Therapy

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy uses gentle electromagnetic pulses to support the body’s natural processes. Delivered through a specialised mat, it’s a non-invasive, relaxing treatment that can be incorporated into your dog’s rehabilitation plan.

PEMF may help support comfort, mobility and recovery, particularly for dogs experiencing joint stiffness, arthritis, age-related changes or musculoskeletal discomfort. Also great for nervous dog's to help settle their nervous system. It can be used alongside other rehabilitation therapies to help keep your dog moving as comfortably as possible.
